The Somali Media Association SOMA (EX NETWORK 2013) strongly condemns the murder of Radio Shabelle journalist in Mogadishu.
Abdi Aziz Mohamed Ali Haghi, a producer at Radio shabelle was killed in Mogadishu’s Yaqshid district on Tuesday 27 September 2016 around 6:00 PM. Unknown gunmen shot the journalist several times on the head and chest before they escaped the scene using a tuktuk. The journalist died on the spot.
The Somali Media Association SOMA (EX NETWORK 2013) extends sincere condolences to Mr. Abdi Aziz’s family, friends, and colleagues and salutes the courage of Somali journalists, who, day in and day out, struggle to defend the inalienable right of freedom of expression on behalf of the Somali people.
The Somali Media Association SOMA (EX NETWORK 2013) urges the Federal Government of Somalia to bring the perpetrators to justice and to end the culture of impunity and violence that threatens both the lives of Somalis and their universally recognized right to freedom of expression.
Mr Abdi Aziz Mohamed is the second Somali journalist killed in Mogadishu this year. Unknown gunmen killed Sagal Salad Robleh, a female Somali Journalist in Mogadishu on 5th June 2016.
