Twenty- one radio journalist reporters and editors from the different radio station members of the Somali Media Association (SOMA) based in Mogadishu, Balad, Galkacyo, Doolow, Bardheere, Baidoa, Bosaso, Abudwaq, Adado and Dhuusamareeb were the main participants of the Radio Production Training Program.
The participants were from various media houses comprising of Radio Balcad, Radio Codka Mudug, Radio Mandeeq, Radio Marabley, Radio Baidoa, Radio Daljir, Radio Wadaag, Radio Abudwaq, Radio Alixsan, Radio Codka G.Dhexe, Radio IQK, Radio Ogal, Radio Ciyaaraha FM, Radio SBC and Radio Dhuusamareeb.
The purpose of the Radio Production Training program is to provide capacity building in upgrade the script writing for the radio journalists to enable them produce quality radio programs to be shared among the Somali Media Association member media houses.
The main topics covered during the three- day Radio Production Program included:-
- Introduction to Interview (advantages, challenges, guide questions, interviewer and interviewee)
- Introduction to Broadcast Journalism (the principals of BJ {television, radio and internet}
- Radio Script Writing (Why we need to write radio script? Principals of script writing , script structure and question session)
- Script Writing – (2) (script writing goals, discussion: Radio Script & Communication Barrier and KIS and KISS theories)
- Elements of Radio Production ( Human voice, Music, sound effects)
- Story Building ( brainstorming, research, sources, getting the story, telling the story and editing the story)
- Feature writing
- Humanitarian reporting
- Group Discussions
- The Content Sharing program (Advantages and challenges)
During the three-day training program, the participants had the opportunity to acquire knowledge and discussions on the main themes focusing the Radio Production training program.
A closing brief ceremony has been held for further promoting the significance of the Radio Production training program.
Dignitaries from the Ministry of Information, Chairperson of SOMA, Chairperson of SOSCENCA, Media House Directors, media experts, journalist and Civil Society Organizations were invited to attend in the closing ceremony event held at Hotel Afrik in Mogadishu, Somalia.
The three – day Radio Production Training program event was concluded with brief speeches made by Eng. Abdirahman Omar Osman, Minister of Information, Abdirahman Koronto, Consultant of the Ministry of Information, Mohamed Abdullahi Kooshin, Chairman of SOMA, Dini Mohamed Dini,Chairman of SOSCENCA .
