Certificates of attendance were distributed to 11 journalists who have completed a three-day Safety Training Workshop for the journalists held in Adado City, the transitional capital of Galmudug State of Somalia from 20th, 21st and 22nd December 201.
Present at the ceremony for the presentation of certificates to the journalist were the dignitaries including Mohamed HaghiHussein , Previous Minister of Interior, Hubin and HeebRegional Administration, Abdullahi Abdirahman Hussein (Tootoole), Adado City District Commissioner and AbdirahmanJama Afrah, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Information of Galmudug State.
The eleven journalists participating in the training program were mainly from various Somali media stations including Radio Galgaduud, Radio Voice of Mudug, Radio Galkacyo, Radio Voice of Central regions, Radio Hobyo, Radio Daljir, Radio Adado, Radio Voice of Peace, Radio Voice of the people and Radio Al Ixsan.
The training was part of series of trainings planned for the Somali journalist with the International Media Support (IMS/FOJO).
The main aim of the training workshop was to improve the safety and protection of Somali
journalists through raising their knowledge and awareness on the standard safety and protection procedures to follow and adopt for maintaining the security of journalists in Somalia.
The main key courses covered during the 3- day training course were: Introduction to safety, personal safety, vehicle safety and security, media and security forces, improvise Explosive Device (IED), first Aid priorities, digital security and introduction to first aid.
Ministers and MPs from the Galmudg Regional State attended in the opening session of the safety training program including Abdullahi Omar, MPs and Abdirahman Jama Afrah, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information of Galmudg State and other officials.
Mr. Abdirahman Jama Afrah, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information of Galmudg State in his opening remarks for the safety training workshop has welcomed the training initiative and suggested SOMA to conduct similar training at other cities of Galmudug State.
The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information of GalmudgState encouraged the journalists participating to take advantage of the safety training conducted by SOMA with the support of IMS/FOJ
