Twelve journalists working for twelve media centers operational in Kismayo City are attending the Safety Training Workshop that have been started today on December 27, 2017 in Kismayo City, the transitional capital of Jubbaland State.
Mohamed Abdiwahab, SOMA Deputy Chairman/Acting Secretary General in his opening remarks for the three -day workshop from 27, 28 and 29 December 2017 appreciated the Jubbaland State government; especially the Ministry of Information , Telecommunication and Technology for their support in conducting the training program.
He also thanked the Minister of Information and the Members of Parliament for their participation in the official opening of the training program.
Mr. Mohamed Abduwahab, the SOMA Deputy Chairman/Acting Secretary General explained that the main aim of the training is to support the journalists on how they could protect their safety while in line of their duties. He advised the journalists to take advantage of this training which he described as being a rare opportunity to get .
The SOMA Acting Secretary General mentioned that 40 media houses across Somalia are unified under the Somali Media Association (SOMA). He added that SOMA is standing for the development of the Somali media, especially for improving the capacity of the Somali journalists.
Mr. Mohamed Abduwahab has appreciated IMS/FOJO saying has funded this training program, and said that without their assistance SOMA could not have conducted this training, and thanked them for supporting the SOMA Association.

Ministers and MPs form Jubbaland State government have participated in the official opening of the Safety Training Workshop in Kismayo City.
Mohamed Ali Joog, MP has said in his opening remarks that the media is the backbone for the society, and commended their role in the development of the country.
Mohamed Ali Joog , the MP has said , ” The journalists are heroes that have endured for the defense of the people and the country., and have persisted the destruction of the country while standing for their duties night and day”
” I am advising the state authorities of the country to protect the security of the journalists, and bear special responsibility because the journalists are standing for the interest of the people and the country while enduring for the killings, explosions and continuous intimidation to silence them.” Mr. Joog said.
Furthermore, Abdi Hiish, MP speaking at the opening session advised the journalists to be good citizens and work for the interest of the people and the country, and making the general interest as the first priority before everything.
Mr. Abdinur Ali Adan , Minister of Information , Telecommunication and Technology of Jubbland State officially opening the training workshop mentioned that he was very pleased to take part in the opening session and has welcomed the Safety Training Workshop to be held in Kismayo City , the Transitional capital of Jubbaland State for journalists working in Kismay City saying that they are doing important job for their country and people.
Mr. Abdinur have advised the journalists to make their best in releasing the truth and facts in order to transfer quality news and programs that will upgrade the community development and the security of the country.
The Minister said Jubbaland is one of the places where the journalist face lesser difficulties in comparison with other regions of the country. The Minister urged the journalists to take advantage of the training program conducted by SOMA to gain increased experience that would assist them in professional journalism.
In conclusion , the Minister of Information pointed that it’s rare to see media station of these number united in an association, and thanked SOMA for the establishment of SOMA unifying media centers operational across all the regions of Somalia, and encouraged SOMA to intensify promoting the Somali Journalists.
