Mogadishu, 8 Janaury, 2018: The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Somali Federal Government of Somalia Eng. Abdirahamn Omar Osman Yarisow has today Monday, January 8, 2017 attended meeting organized by the Somali Media Association (SOMA) which was held at SYL Hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia.
The Director General of the Ministry of Information Mr. Abdurrahman Al Adaala was accompanying the Minister of Information at the meeting.
Senior members of SOMA association and some Directors of SOMA member media houses ( Radio Hiran Weyn, Radio Risaala, Radio Mustaqbal, Radio Hatuf, Star FM Somalia, CiyaarahaFM and Iftin radio) were present at the meeting.
Mr. Mohamed Osman Makaran, Acting Chairperson of SOMA and Director of Radio Hiran Weyn described the SOMA meeting with H.E. Eng. Abdirahman Omar Osman, the Minister of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia and Mr. Abdirahman Al Adaala, Director General of the Ministry of Information as very significant.
“The meeting will further strengthen the relationship between the Ministry of Information and the Somali Media Association,” Mr. Makaran said.
The senior SOMA members have pointed out that the meeting will play key role in improving the efforts of cooperation between the public media and private media.
“SOMA with member media houses operational across all over Somalia will jointly cooperate in promoting community awareness raising programs and developing the capacity of the journalists.” Mohamed Abduwahab, Acting SOMA Secretary General said.
“We would like to cooperate with SOMA in the new program initiative of developing curriculum for upgrading the journalists in which we are working with the Somali National University.” Mr. Abdirahman Al Adaala , D.G of the Ministry of Information said.
Eng. Adirahman Omar Osman Yarisow, Minister of Information appreciated SOMA for the meeting and mentioned that the Ministry of Information encourages the private media.
“We encourage the independence and development of the private media and the need for regular meeting and cooperation.” Eng. Abdirahman Omar Osman yarisow said at the conclusion of the meeting.
