*Mogadishu – On January 24, 2025, the Somali Media Association (SOMA) successfully concluded a two-day training workshop for Somali Mechanism for the Safety of Journalists (SMSJ) members.
This workshop was held on January 21 and 22, 2025, at the Jazeera Hotel in Mogadishu. Organized by SOMA with the support of International Media Support (IMS), the event brought together representatives from SMSJ member organizations, including SOMA, SJS, SWJO, MAP, FESOJ, SIMHA, and MWN, intending to enhance leadership capabilities, networking competencies, advocacy skills, and operational strategies.
The workshop was facilitated by leadership expert Ibrahim Njoroge Kimani, who focused on essential leadership principles, coalition building, and the dynamics of effective networks.
Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of organizational leadership and coalition dynamics, recognized the benefits of effective leadership in achieving organizational objectives, and explored the role of coalitions in advocacy and lobbying efforts.
Moreover, the training advanced participants’ abilities to manage networks efficiently while identifying their leadership potential and appreciating the attributes of others.
Feedback from participants was highly favorable, with many emphasizing the training’s relevance and practical applicability.
Mohamed Abdiwahab, the Secretary of SOMA, remarked, “The training has profoundly transformed my understanding of effective leadership. I now possess a comprehensive set of tools that enable me to make more informed decisions, fostering a culture of collaboration and synergy within my team.”
Similarly, MAP Chairman Mohamed Dahir Aysane highlighted, “The session on Action-Centered Leadership was particularly impactful, as it provided us with detailed strategies for effectively balancing the dynamics among team members, managing tasks efficiently, and nurturing a collaborative team environment.”
